19:49:16 From Alexandra : hello Professor! I have two quick questions regarding the paper if that's okay with you.

19:50:32 From tichure : sure

19:50:35 From tichure : fire away

19:50:59 From Alexandra : first question, if the paragraph is too long (over a page), would you prefer it if I broke it into two smaller paragraphs?

19:51:28 From Alexandra : because it looks incredibly bulky, I've had professors ask me to break up paragraphs before so I wanted to know what your preference was

19:52:28 From tichure : No. Paragraphing has everything to do with cohesion. You can have a paragraph that is simply a sentence or maybe even a few words. You can also have paragraphs that are incredibly long if the focus of the paragraph creates a cohesive, logical argument. Purpose of this type of analysis is not to create a cohesive argument as to the meaning of the work throughout the entire paper. It’s to demonstrate the different meanings that the work has depending on the critical perspective that’s applied. To that end, each paragraph is its own cohesive argument, identified by the topic sentence in which you make clear the critical perspective. For some of these analyses, you may have a body paragraph that’s as many as four pages long if that’s necessary.

19:52:55 From Alexandra : sweet

19:52:58 From Alexandra : thank you

19:53:22 From tichure : The first paper will be four total paragraphs. An introduction, a conclusion and two body paragraphs. Since the paper supposed to be about 4 to 6 pages, that means you will have 2 body paragraphs that are at least a page long.

19:53:44 From tichure : likewise, for the responses, since you’re only applying a single critical perspective, it is still only three paragraphs. It’ll be an introduction, a conclusion and the single body paragraph which should be at least a page long if you’re doing the proper research and analysis.

19:54:32 From Alexandra : no more, no less?

19:55:17 From tichure : No more, no less, as you’re only applying two critical

19:55:27 From Alexandra : okay cool, thank you

19:55:33 From tichure : you’re welcome

19:55:38 From tichure : anything else I can help you with

19:55:45 From Alexandra : yeah I have one more question

19:55:56 From tichure : go for it

19:57:00 From Alexandra : since i'm doing an album, when I cite each individual song, does the in-text citation be the same or different? for example, I cite lyrics from one song in the paper and cite it (author), but then I cite lyrics from another song, would I still just cite it (author)? or is there a way I should be differentiating between them?

19:57:47 From tichure : actually, because you’re using multiple works, you’ll have to be able to identify which is which. In most cases, all of the works were written by the same author. Whenever you have a situation, you cite by both the author’s last name and the title of the work and, for lyrics, the line number.

19:58:28 From Alexandra : that makes sense, so like it would be "lyric" (author, song name #)?

19:58:36 From tichure : if you have different authors or different author combinations for these works, then you would cite something that has a unique author combination by authors and number only

19:58:46 From tichure : so… which are you analyzing?

19:59:13 From tichure : what work are you analyzing

19:59:24 From Alexandra : oh! the album Pussy Whipped by Bikini Kill

19:59:47 From tichure : are all of the songs written by the same author or author combination?

19:59:53 From Alexandra : same author each time

20:00:03 From tichure : Then you will give me author, title, line number every time

20:00:09 From Alexandra : awesome

20:00:12 From Alexandra : thank you!

20:00:29 From tichure : by the way, when you have a song title or any title that’s more than three words, you only have to give me the entire title the first time you cite it. After that, you can cut it down to the first three words of that title in any subsequent citation.

20:00:50 From Alexandra : got it

20:01:07 From tichure : Anything else I can help you with?

20:01:29 From Alexandra : no, i'm okay now, thank you for your help!

20:01:35 From Alexandra : bye!

20:01:47 From tichure : My pleasure. I’ll be back here on Tuesday between seven and eight if you have any more issues. Also, you can always send an email to me.

20:01:52 From tichure : Poof
