19:11:29 Hannah : hello!!!

19:11:40 tichure : hey Hannah. letting people wander in..will start soon 19:11:55

19:12:14 Hannah : wait what

19:12:23 Evelyne : hello

19:12:29 Genevieve : hello

19:12:41 tichure : hey now. we will begin soon

19:13:00 Evelyne : okay sounds good

19:13:05 Hannah : okay!

19:13:14 Genevieve : okay thank you

19:13:15 Hannah : okay!

19:13:27 Sammy : okay

19:15:16 Genevieve : suspense music is playing

19:15:21 Hannah : ????

19:15:30 tichure : hey folks, letting people populate the room. We will start soon

19:16:02 Judith : a got confused for a bit-- did not know the email zoom link was to
another place

19:16:27 Hannah : thats alright, judth. we’re all confused

19:16:38 Genevieve : very confused

19:18:02 tichure : hang out

19:18:08 tichure : it’ll all be ok

19:18:33 Genevieve : hakuta matata

19:21:38 Hannah : could u maybe put the recurring link on canvas ???

19:22:12 tichure : sure

19:22:30 Karina : Yes can we have the link on canvas please that would be really
helpful

19:24:18 tichure : will do

19:25:27 Genevieve : Ill just put down my question: for the presentation do we put down
what we want to do and the week we want to present?

19:25:50 tichure : yes gen

19:27:05 Genevieve : thank you ;)

19:27:23 Karina : The chat archives are mandatory to read Professor and those are
located in your website?

19:27:31 ysabella : Are we supposed to submit anything this week? I went through week 1 module but I am confused if we need to submit actual assignments this week.

19:27:36 Michelle : Where will we submit our topic for our research papers?

19:27:38 Evelyne : is there any office hours for any questions we have?

19:27:41 Hannah : how do u know when we do an assignment?

19:28:15 Genevieve : For our presentation we can do it on any literature/media so long
as we provide a summary in our presentation?

19:28:18 tichure : so let’s get some basics down

19:28:21 tichure : one

19:28:22 Karina : the current items in the canvas grades are all that will be graded and
due for the semester?

19:28:30 tichure : the office hour and class time are going to be live chats during the
week

19:28:45 tichure : the Wednesday evening chat is a catchall for any class and any
discussion of the research paper, which essentially is the same for every class

19:28:57 tichure : for the Monday Wednesday class, there will be a chat time during the
class time scheduled

19:29:20 tichure : for the Tuesday Thursday classes, there will be a chat time during
the class time scheduled

19:29:41 tichure : I am also available to set up individual days and times that an
individual or group may find more convenient in terms working around family or work or
whatever

19:29:47 tichure : we can set that up through email and then hold the chat

19:30:03 tichure : the purpose of tonight’s chat is to get you acquainted with an added
resource to all of the courses I teach

19:30:31 tichure : which brings me to a point. If you ask me specifics about your class,
it’s not necessarily going to translate to someone else whose class is slightly different so let’s stick to the general thing for now

19:30:47 Karina : is there a way to get one scheduled meeting per class ?

19:30:58 tichure : yes Karina

19:30:59 Genevieve : I second that

19:31:41 tichure : the 213 class and the early start class are online

19:31:58 tichure : and therefore we will have a specific time for you to attend which I
will send to you during this week

19:32:08 Hannah : okay

19:32:09 tichure : but let me clarify something

19:32:12 Genevieve : thank you

19:32:15 tichure : my chat is not a lecture

19:32:26 tichure : the lectures are already on canvas

19:32:31 tichure : each week you have lectures on content

19:32:34 tichure : formatting

19:32:38 tichure : literary theory

19:32:48 tichure : and when you come into the chat room, you are looking for
CLARIFICATION

19:32:54 tichure : especially when it comes to your specific paper.

19:33:26 tichure : Most people use the chat time to talk to me directly about what they
are writing about on their paper and for many people, especially in 103, it narrows down
to a couple of very popular choices which means that if I am talking to student A,
student B and student C understand the context because it refers to their paper as well

19:33:47 tichure : when you begin to get feedback from me, which will be through
Canvas for everything except for the actual paper drafts

19:33:58 Judith : so its more of a group discussion thing?

19:34:02 Genevieve : Are we going to see each other now?

19:34:22 tichure : you will also have questions that you can get answered concerning
your work

19:34:29 tichure : Judith, really it is more of a discussion

19:34:35 tichure : because you should have already gone through the material for that
week

19:34:47 tichure : which means starting Monday next week, everybody should have
read/watched all the material for week one

19:35:22 tichure : Genevieve, that’s not really super important to me, although some
people put their faces in their identity which you can see in the participants list

19:35:43 tichure : but I’m not even using audio or video because I archive these chats
for everyone to read for the majority people who cannot attend live

19:36:25 tichure : there will be opportunities for you to interact with other students
depending on which class you have. There is a discussion group option for English 103
concerning gathering people doing the same paper subject

19:36:29 Genevieve : no that's not what I mean I thought the chat would give us a
chance to speak to one another

19:36:33 tichure : and there are discussion group options for the literature classes as
well

19:36:40 tichure : well you can certainly do that as well Genevieve

19:37:04 tichure : and if it’s something that you are interested in, I can set up a chat
room in which you’re allowed to interact with each other, and certainly in the context of
this type of forum during your class time, you will have an opportunity to do that

19:37:08 tichure : especially since I’m not gonna be lecturing

19:37:45 Hannah : ok we can do that

19:37:47 America : okay can we have a bit more clarification for everyone based on the
research paper

19:37:47 Genevieve : that sounds great thank you

19:38:16 tichure : well the term papers will be the same for everybody

19:38:20 tichure : and here are the basic steps

19:38:34 tichure : all of you will choose a topic either from a very narrow list I give to
103 or a much broader list I give to the honors classes and literature courses

19:38:48 tichure : if there’s any questions about your choice, make sure you have a
conversation with me by email before you start your work

19:38:59 tichure : the second thing you will do is to prove to yourself and to me that it is
a good choice by creating an annotated Works cited

19:39:07 tichure : the instructions are on Canvas

19:39:17 tichure : what follows that is a two critical perspective analysis of the work
you’ve chosen, which is your first paper

19:39:29 tichure : what follows that is an outline of the final paper, which will be four
critical perspectives

19:39:50 tichure : and what follows that is the final paper, four critical perspectives on
the topic you chose at the beginning of the semester

19:39:53 tichure : so choose well

19:40:00 tichure : because you will be living with it for 14 weeks or so

19:40:13 tichure : that is the majority of your grade

19:40:21 tichure : because we are online and cannot get on campus, there will be no
test

19:40:27 tichure : for any class

19:40:33 Genevieve : is it 4 or 2 because in the module it says 2

19:40:47 tichure : Genevieve, the first draft is two

19:40:51 Hannah : so how do we get our papers to our peers for editing and stuff ???

19:40:54 tichure : the end of the semester is four

19:40:58 tichure : we will burn that bridge when we get to it

19:41:15 tichure : good question Hannah. As I was mentioning earlier, for the 103 class, there is a folder for discussion concerning each of the specific topics available

19:41:16 Michelle : How do we go about confirming the topic we choose with you?

19:41:30 tichure : for the literature courses, I will create discussion group options to
allow people to interact with each other since it’s unlikely in a great number of people
will be doing the same work

19:41:41 tichure : Michelle, if you’re in 103, you simply pick from one of the topics I give
you and your good to go

19:41:50 tichure : for every other class, if you pick from the list I give you, you are good
to go

19:42:23 tichure : if you want something that is not on that list (and this is for honors
and literature only, not 103), you must contact me and then we will have a conversation
as to whether I am familiar with the work

19:42:34 tichure : that’s how it works

19:42:38 tichure : so your first assignment

19:42:38 Michelle : Does that still apply if I’m in 103H?

19:42:48 Michelle : Ah okay thank you

19:42:52 tichure : read/watch everything in week one and week two and start making a
decision as to what you write about

19:43:07 tichure : Michelle, you’re in that second group. Look at the list I give you for
suggestions, but if there’s something lyrical that you want to do, talk to me about it

19:43:27 tichure : anyway, I believe Andrew is here

19:43:41 Andrew R : Hello.

19:43:42 From Andrew to Everyone : hi

19:43:44 From Andrew to Everyone : oh

19:43:46 tichure : and I am gonna have him introduce himself. In fact I’m going to let
him speak to you so he doesn’t have to type
