WHY A LEARNING COMMUNITY? The purpose of this learning community is to provide students with an opportunity to cultivate the skills, values, and attitudes necessary to become confident, capable students and contributing community members (or to enrich them academically, personally, and professionally).

This learning community cohort is encouraged to continue together in the Spring 2009 semester with the same instructors teaching English 101 & Counseling 145 (Career & Life Planning). Both these classes are degree applicable/transferable and meet specific general education requirements for the CSU system.

  1. Define their reason for attending college and their scope of responsibility
  2. Apply effective study skills to this class and other college courses
  3. Participate in effective decision making towards an educational goal
  4. Identify campus support services and policies
  5. Evaluate personal values and how they relate to life choices
  6. Successfully adapt to college life
  7. Approach writing as a process involving planning, editing and revision
